PHOTOGRAPHY SPHERICAL IMAGES
"If you see only what is obvious, you will see nothing" Spherical Images
The photographic works of Klaus Haas deal with everyday surfaces that stay unnoticed, and seem to play no role in our lives. Yet the opposite is true: These are often technical or architectural elements of daily life, necessary in nature, and, though unnoticed quite essential. Floors, tiles, concrete and metal surfaces, surface coverings, grids, textures, earths, plants,... all kind of structures can be found everywhere. Their surfaces and appearances form a cosmos all of their own. Silently they creep into our lives. The intervention of observational photography and its amplification by means of spherical lens observation creates a new status of observation and allows these seemingly simple structures to penetrate into the consciousness of us humans. |
Such photographic discoveries are familiar from conceptual traditional digital photography, also through editing processes using programmes. Klaus Haas' photos serve as raw material, which is then visualised in simple form into a pictorial "sign and image symbol". This juggling with structures towards a spherical object changes the perspective in such a way that it undermines the habits of perception and the observation can be reformed.
Klaus Haas discovers these structures on his walks or journeys, in underground trains, in public places, in hotels, in stairwells or simply on the street. The restraint of the photographic works is part of the concept. The digital processing is very reduced, without changing significantly. Klaus Haas continues to use these photographic structures in virtual reality, generating new spaces from them. This advanced concept distinguishes Klaus Haas' works from traditional digital photography. This form of photographic observation is intended to lead into a fascinating structural world through direct photography freed from all distractions, which can also lead to a clarity of one's own perception when viewed. |
